The director of the Air Force Research Laboratory's space vehicles directorate this week called for "a more balanced investment strategy" that considers what future space capabilities may be needed to address long-term threats.Speaking during a National Security Space Association event on Tuesday, Col. Eric Felt said the directorate works closely with the Space Warfighting Analysis and the Space Force to present options that reduce the risk of moving toward a future architecture feat is more resilient and more capable, noting that while it's important to address the current threat, the service must also be prepared for what's coming in the next decade."We need to be able to deter China tonight, no doubt about that," Felt said. "But we also need to be able to deter China in 2030 and 2035, and I would argue that we're putting a little bit too much emphasis on the near term, and we need to have a more balanced investment strategy that also looks at these longer-term things or we're going to find ourselves in a future we don't like very well when we get there in 2030."
