摘要

If someone tweets in the desert, does anyone read it? They do if the Twitter account belongs to billionaire Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, 57, who recently announced that his Kingdom Holding Co. had invested $300 million in the social networking giant. Al-Waleed's Twitter investment is secondary in nature, mean ing that his holding company bought shares from existing stakeholders in the privately held Twitter. The prince's penchant for an Internet-based company is notable given that he has preferred to invest mainly in the financial and hospitality sectors. His investment came on the heels of Twitter's announcement that it would begin offering an Arabic-based feed (which reads from right to left) in an effort to attract users from the Middle East-North Africa region.
