Nigeria's prominence as a leading African economy is inconsistent with the state of its infrastructure. Telecoms, oil, gas, power and transportation are critical sectors which must be improved for progress to accelerate. Changing tack, Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) are now more prevalent in addressing Nigeria's infrastructure shortfall. Specifically, the Federal Government's Debt Management Office is pointing to US$100 billion targeted at power, rail, roads, oil and gas. FCMB is supporting this via investment capital, improved project management and market discipline on deliverables. Besides FGNs (Federal Government Notes), the equity market (Nigeria Stock Exchange) is largely where international portfolio capital has been placed. The NSE offers liquidity, where daily volumes now run in a $100-150 million range.
