Kazakhstan has been fortunate with its choice of head of the central bank. Appointed governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan in January last year, Anvar Saidenov, 44, is very much the face the young country wants to project to the international community. Educated in Moscow and London, he did a stint with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development before being appointed deputy governor of the National Bank in 1996. Since then Saidenov has won plaudits throughout the world for his efficiency and his commitment to transparency.
