The Fourth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that a smattering of e-mails and phone calls made among companies in Virginia, Colorado, and India do not establish a lower court's jurisdiction over the defendants. Consulting Engineers Corp. v. Geometric Ltd. et al., No. 07-1453,2009 WL 738165 (4th Cir. Mar. 23,2009). "While there is a sizable body of case law emerging at the district level for Internet-based personal jurisdiction cases, not many of these cases have come before one of the courts of appeal," said attorney Kenneth Leonetti of Foley Hoag, who represents defendant Geometric Ltd.
