1. Define Intellectual Property (IP)—An effective IP protection plan must include classifying data using techniques that ensure that all expressions of IP, including unstructured data, such as source code, secret recipes, engineering designs and product roadmaps, are protected. 2. Know What's Leaving the Network—Technology gives General Counsel visibility into employees' use of the network. A content monitoring appliance, for example, can discover if private data or IP is leaving the network by a sender or to a recipient that is not authorized. 3. Define and enforce security policies—Make sure that security policies are up to date based on best practices and current regulations. Educate employees on your security policies and communicate that these policies will be enforced.
