Handover of European module for ISS coincides with renewed German commitment to space. The Columbus laboratory — the European Space Agency's biggest single contribution to the International Space Station (ISS) — is finally on its way ... to the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. There it will be placed in storage to await a shuttle flight to carry it to the ISS. Under the current schedule, it will have a berth on mission STS-122 (the seventh shuttle flight following Return to Flight), in September 2007 — several years later than envisaged, due to disruptions in shuttle operations following the loss of Columbia in 2003.
