The clouds are clearing over Seattle and Toulouse. For the first time since 2000, the combined sales of Airbus and Boeing are climbing upwards again.. In 2004, the two companies logged a total of 647 orders, 23% more than the previous year, which marked the bottom of the cycle with just 524 orders. The same trend can be seen if one looks at net orders — taking account of cancellations. The increase works out at 31% (647 vs. 493 orders). Deliveries, too, picked up, from 586 aircraft in 2003 to 605 last year.
