The European group is now offering a range of five different models with fuel capacities ranging from 3-65t. Within the space of a few short months, EADS burst onto the air-to-air refuelling scene, muscling its way into a market that had historically been a duopoly dominated by US and Russian industry. Selections by two of the world's most demanding air forces in rapid succession thrust the European A330 MRTT (multi-role tanker transport) firmly into the limelight. Australia ordered five aircraft, while the UK selected the aircraft for its Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft (FSTA) programme.
