According to Euroconsult's new research report "World Satellite Communications & Broadcasting Markets Survey - Market Forecasts for 2014", fixed service satellite (FSS) revenues amounted to $7.05 billion in 2004, 60% of which was accounted for by the top three operators, with the rest split between the remaining 30. The growth that is seen just over the horizon is expected to be strongest in the Ku-band, where the number of transponders is expected to shoot up from 2,500 in 2004 to 3,400 in 2014. These transponders will mostly be dedicated to high-definition TV broadcasting, which is expecteAd to take off in Europe in 2006.
