Roche-Bobois' second store in the UK opened last January in London. Standing impressively in the Riverside West development, where four major roads meet, the latest flagship store is in a prime location linking some of the most expensive residential areas in the capital. Martin Gleize, managing director of Roche-Bobois UK, has lived nearby for the past four years since leaving France, and says he knew as soon as he saw the previously unoccupied office building that it would make an ideal showroom. "It's in the heart of a rising market south of the river, and has great visibility," he says. "What struck me right away was the ceiling height - I didn't want to lose it, and I liked the idea of continuing the steel and concrete theme for the showroom rather than having the more usual wood floors and suspended ceiling. It's in line with a lot of the industrial buildings now being converted in this neighbourhood, and it's very much what the area is about."
