Despite the inauspicious timing during the week US forces entered Baghdad, 171,520 trade visitors (plus 15,039 members of the public) attended the show, exceeding all expectations. While many visitors from the Middle East and the US failed to attend, the Russians, Europeans and Japanese all turned up in force. 'It went better than expected,' confirmed Rosario Messina, the president of organisers, Cosmit. 'On the eve of the fair, we feared that it would fall in an extremely delicate moment for the sector, signalling a downturn. Now, having seen the results, we can say that this edition was the 'turn-around edition', heralding an upturn.'
