General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. has begun development testing of the new Certifiable Predator B (CPB), a variant of the Predator B RPA (remotely piloted aircraft). This variant is designed for operation in non-segregated civilian airspace. It will be able to operate in both controlled and uncontrolled airspace. CPB has also been ordered by the United Kingdom under the Protector programme for the RAF. The CPB for the UK will have some modifications to meet the Ministry of Defence's requirements for the armed Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) requirement. It will replace the RAF's General Atomics Predator B/ MQ-9 Reaper RPAs. Additionally, CPB is also designed to be fully compliant with NATO's UAV Systems Requirements, designated STANAG 4675. First flight of the CPB is scheduled for end 2016, and could even take place by the time this item is being read.
