India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has a new chief, who also acts as the Scientific Advisor to the country's Defence Minister. Dr. Avinash Chander succeeds the erstwhile Dr. V.K Saraswat and is also the Secretary, Department of Defence. "I feel honoured to take up this new responsibility. Dr. Saraswat has set DRDO on a good course -I have to continue and take it to the next level" he said on his appointment. In recognition of his immense contributions towards strengthening national defence, the Government of India also recently honoured Dr. Chander with the prestigious Padma Shri Award.
