Mahindra Aerospace, which has drawn up an ambitious plan to get a foothold in the multi billion dollar global aerospace market, is planning to roll out NM-5 general aviation aircraft which it had co developed in association with the Bengaluru based National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), before the end of this year. As it is Mahindra Aerospace is waiting for the inking of the Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement (BASA)between India and US which would smoothen the path for selling Indian origin aerospace products in the global market without any hassles. The NM-5 aircraft, the first one to be produced under public-private partnership route in India, will be a five seater piston aircraft ideally suited for purposes such as chartered and corporate flying and medical evacuation. It will feature a glass cockpit and electronics flight instrumentation systems. "It would be the end of 2012 before we can get the type certification. So we are saying that 2013 is the likely entry for the aircraft into the market," says a spokesman of Mahindra Aerospace. It is planned to get FAR-23 standard certification for this aircraft which is expected to have a good market in India.
