Every year, The Indian Navy celebrates its famous assault on December 4th in 1971 at the Karachi Harbour during the Indo-Pakistan war. Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Sureesh Mehta, in his address on the occasion of the 36th Navy Day, described the Indian Navy as the premiere maritime power in the Indian Ocean, and added that today it encompasses weapons and sensors of a magnitude not available in the past. "Our recent emphasis on reaching out to our maritime neighbours has resulted in the Indian Navy being acknowledged as a 'force of good' in the Indian Ocean region," claimed Admiral Mehta.
