India's first nuclear submarine took to the waters at Vishakapatnam to begin the steps to become operational under nuclear power, a red letter day in the annals of India's naval achievements. In the presence of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and to the chanting of traditional slokas, his saree- clad wife, Mrs Gursharan Kaur, broke the traditional coconut on the bows of India's ambitious 6000 ton classified naval nuclear project called by the misnomer an Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV) and named her INS Arihant.
