A short paper by Leonhard Euler The solution of a problem belonging to the geometria situs, written in 1736, is usually referred to as the first substantial publication in topology and graph theory . Expressing a common opinion, Emil A. Fellmann writes, for example : " In his investigation The solution of a problem belonging to the geometria situs, which deals with the " problem of Konigsberg bridges ", the first systematical foundations (Ansaetze) of topology are formulated "... And further: " The study of this problem has lead Euler to important propositions of graph theory ".
