In April, the construction consortium PUMA moved and placed 3.8 million cubic meters of sand in one week during the Maasvlakte 2 land reclamation project in the North Sea. Eleven Boskalis and Van Oord hopper dredges are working on the project.rnThe Maasvlakte 2 reclamation will add 2000 hectares (4942 acres) to the Port of Rotterdam.rnOn Sunday, April 25, the 120 millionth cubic meter of sand was sprayed onto the reclamation area - meaning that half the sand needed for the first phase of Maasvlakte 2 has been applied. The first container terminals are due to be ready for operation in 2013, so the project is on schedule.
