EURATEX, THE BODY representing the European textile industry, has expressed anxiety about the risk of economic dislocation arising from the UK's exit from the European Union, as it calls on negotiators to seek a 'smooth Brexit'. In a position paper, Euratex identifies the high stakes involved in Britain's departure, pointing out that the UK is the third most important market in intra-EU textile and clothing trade. As one of the EU's biggest economies, the UK imported almost €10 billion worth of textile and clothing goods in the period 2014-16, while its own exports to Europe were €6.2 billion.
