Optimisation of the Dyeing Process for Reactive Dyes and their Fastness Properties on Muga Silk Fabric

Muga silk, being an exclusive textile with diverse comfort and aesthetic properties, can become an ideal raw material for producing creative textile materials. Dyeing of muga silk can also enhance the marketing value of muga silk fabric, since it will provide an unexplored opportunity to designers and will make muga silk products available for use to the people of any culture worldwide.rnAn effort was made to explore the possibility of dyeing muga silk fabric. In this study the fabric was dyed successfully with two classes of reactive dyes and it was found that the physical properties of the muga silk fabric are enhanced after dyeing, except for a slight decrease in its tensile strength. So the dyeing of muga silk fabric can be seen as a viable option for the development and diversification of Vanya silks.
