After a weaker year in 2005, Germany exported textile machinery worth EUR 3.62 billion ($4.87 billion) in 2006, a 6% rise over the previous 12 months, and the prospects for the current year and beyond are just as promising. For 2007, the VDMA Textile Machinery Association is expecting a sales increase of 13% compared with 2006. The leading markets for German textile machinery - China and India - accounted for 36% of exports, followed by Turkey, U.S., and Italy. Spinning machinery represented 37% of total shipments; knitting/hosiery machinery 34%.
