The paper presents a comparative study on the performance of a compacted clay liner (CCL) and geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) in a chrome laden waste disposal site for managing integrated tannery waste treatment. A laboratory scale model setup was used after collecting the soil from the site and with GCL placed over the soil for carrying out the present investigation. Electrical resistivity test was also conducted at and far from the site for qualitative assessment of total dissolve solids (TDS) present. Prototype field test was conducted with CCL & GCL for finding out their potential to contain the movement of Cr~(6+) ions which was found in the sludge. TDS in the leaching effluent within the periphery of the plant complex was found less in the migrating leachate found far away from the complex. GCL was found to be a better liner material compared to CCL for impeding the Cr~(6+) ions in that case.
