This paper describes an experimental investigation of the convective heat transfer characteristics of a rectangular plate with blunt edges, inclined with respect to the flow. Time averaged data were obtained from surface temperature measurements on a uniformly heated plate whereas a surface mounted hot film sensor was used to measure the fluctuating heat transfer rate. Tests were performed with varying angle of attack and for different positions of the hot film sensor across the chord of the plate. The time averaged heat transfer distributions are consistent with analytical data for attached boundary layer flows over inclined plates. The time varying data indicate regions of high heat transfer fluctuations, linked to the local flow characteristics. Spectral analysis of the data shows that heat transfer on the front surface is influenced by vortex shedding from the plate whereas heat transfer in the wake region is affected by a higher general level of turbulence with less evident peaks due to vortex shedding. Overall, the heat transfer distribution is very sensitive to plate orientation but almost independent of velocity in the range studied.
