The main objectives of the PIDA Week each year are: to showcase progress made in the implementation of selected PIDA projects, with special focus on cross-border projects; to provide a marketing platform to accelerate implementation of such projects; and, to address crucial issues linked with resource mobilization and an enabling environment. The Fourth PIDA Week aimed to build on previous events and continue to engage stakeholders on the effective delivery of infrastructure across the African continent, focusing on good governance and how it can specifically help to: 1. enable project preparation and implementation; 2. support resource mobilization; 3. promote private sector confidence to invest in PIDA projects; and, 4. encourage integration of PIDA projects into national development plans. As part of the strategy of promoting cross-linkages with PIDA stakeholders, the 2018 PIDA Week brought together representatives of the Africa Forum for Utility Regulators (AFUR), Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Continental Business Network (CBN), African Infrastructure Guarantee Mechanism (AIGM) and others. The event was hosted by the Government of Zimbabwe, under the auspices of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). The theme underpinning the discussions was 'PIDA implementation through good governance: Realizing smart infrastructure for Africa's integration'. The intention was to build on the achievements and momentum created at the previous three events, and to continue to engage stakeholders on the effective delivery of infrastructure across the African continent. The meeting also aimed to provide a platform for stakeholders to engage specifically in accelerating and synergizing their efforts in relation to project preparation and implementation; mobilizing adequate financial and technical resources for projects; increasing private sector participation in PIDA schemes; and mobilizing Member States to integrate the PIDA projects into their national development plans.
