The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has contracted a joint venture led by China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) with DESCON, a local engineering group, for the civil and electro-mechanical works of the 800 MW Mohmand hydropower project on the river Swat in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The contract, which is worth INR183.52 billion (US$ 1.3 billion), was signed by representatives of WAPDA and the contractors on 26 March.
