Iberdrola, through its Brazilian subsidiary Neoenergia, officially commissioned the 350 MW Baixo Iguacu hydropower plant on the river Iguacu, in the southern Brazilian state of Parana, in a ceremony held on 23 May. The plant, which began generating power this January and began full commercial operation in April, was built by Odebrecht Infraestrutura under an EPC contract on behalf of the owner-operator, Consorcio Empre -endedor Baixo Iguacu, comprising Geracao Ceu Azul, a unit of Neoenergia, and the state power utility Copel, at a total cost of US$ 575 million. The cost includes 60 km of transmission lines, as well as the asso- ciated social and environmental programmes.
