As a fundamental activity within the Hydropower Technology Collaboration Programme (TCP), member countries collaborate to add value, importance and relevance to hydropower development. This is achieved through R&D programmes that address important challenges and opportunities facing this substantia] renewable energy source, by providing a cost-effective means to leverage available research funds through international effort. The research portfolio is defined by the countries participating in the Executive Committee (ExCo), based on enabling knowledge transfer and effective, collaborative research. Significant global trends are emerging in the hydropower sector, where some countries are reducing their dependence on fleets of thermal and nuclear power stations.
