Iberdrola has secured a €400 million (US$ 445.3 million) loan from Spanish state-owned bank Institute de Credito Oficial (ICO) towards the cost of the development of the 1158 MW Tamega River hydroelectric complex in northern Portugal. The loan agreement, which was signed by Iberdrola's Chairman, Ignacio Galan, and ICO Chairman, Jose Carlos Garcia de Quevedo, was described by the Spanish utility as "the larget ever green loan granted by the ICO". The loan, with a 12-year maturity and two-year grace period, was certified by the independent agency Vigeo-Eiris, which verified that the project complies with Green Loan principles. VigeoEiris also assessed Iberdrola's environmental, social and governance performance as part of the certification process.
