The US energy regulator, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), has issued a preliminary permit to Premium Energy Holdings LLC to study the feasibility of the proposed Intermountain pumped-storage project, with a proposed capacity of between 1200 and 2000 MW, in the western US state of Utah. The 24-month permit, which was issued on 18 December, and is effective from 1 December 2019, ensures first priority to the licensee in applying for a full project licence.
