Construction of the 34 MW Kinguele Aval hydropower plant on the river Mbei in northwestern Gabon is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2020, following the signing of a concession contract in late October. The French based investment fund Meridiam announced on 24 October the signing of a 33-year concession contract with the Government of Gabon for the run-of-river project, which is to be developed in consortium with Gabon's state investment fund, Le Fonds Gabonais d'Investissements Strategiques (FGIS). The independent power project, which is to be built downstream of the existing Kinguele and Tchimbele plants, about 100 km east of the capital Libreville, will entail the construction of a gravity concrete weir, a powerplant, a stilling basin and a substation. The plant is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2023, according to Meridiam.
