Construction of the 240 MW Kutehr hydropower project in India's northern state of Himachal Pradesh is set to begin, following the laying of a foundation stone by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur at a ceremony held on 30 October. The INR 27.5 billion (US$ 383.6 million) project, on the river Ravi in the Chamba district, is to be developed by JSW Energy, the energy arm of the industrial conglomerate JSW Group on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis. The project will principally comprise the construction of a 28 m-high barrage, along with energy dissipation arrangements including a fish ladder, a 14.57 km-long, 6.2 m-diameter headrace tunnel, two intakes, two underground desand-ing chambers, a 352 m-long silt flushing tunnel, a main pressure shaft of 4.35 m diameter bifurcating to three 2.5 m-diameter pres- sure shafts, an underground powerhouse to be equipped with three 80 MW Francis turbine generator units and, a 295 m-long main tail-race tunnel. Tenders for the civil works, and design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the hydro-mechanical equipment and electro-mechanical equipment were launched in late 2018 and early 2019.
