The Marala project, a low head run-of-river type powerhouse, has been constructed on the Upper Chenab canal with a plant capacity of 7.64 MW in a bypass arrangement. The location is shown in Fig. 1. The site is located about 1047 m downstream of the main head regulator of the Upper Chenab canal. The barrage is located about 48 km upstream of the Khanki headworks, and about 25 km north of Sialkot City. The area is part of the Indo-Gangetic plains and is predominantly flat. Sialkot experiences warm summers and cold winters.
