The 25 MW Upper Madi hydro project in the Kaski district of western Nepal began commercial service on 30 December. The run-of-river project was developed on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis by a consortium led by China International Water & Electric Company (CWE), with the Nepalese investor Bijay Babu Malla. CWE holds an 80 per cent stake in the project, and Malla holds the remaining 20 per cent of the shares. It is the first hydro project to be implemented in Nepal by CWE.
