Engurhesi, the state owned operator of the Enguri hydropower complex in northwestern Georgia, plans to invite bids this year for further refurbishment and modernization work. Engurhesi intends to use loan funds from the European Bank for Recon struction and Development (EBRD) as well as potential funding from the EU Neighbourhood Invest-ment Facility (EU NIF) to finance Phase IV of the priority rehabilitation programme at the Enguri hydro plant, according to a general procurement notice issued on 5 January. The project, with an estimated total value of about €33 million, aims to complete the rehabilitation and modernization of the 1320 MW Enguri plant, including civil works on its headrace tunnel as well as hydro-mechanical works on its penstocks and gates. The project will also cover rehabilitation of Enguri's switchyard, the spillway gates of Vardnili II and the Enguri river diversion weir and access road, as well as implementation of a sedimentation management plan and improved operational procedures to promote resilience to climate change. Tendering for the consultancy contract is expected to commence during the first quarter of 2017.
