The Research Council of Norway is to allocate NOK 15 to 25 million (€ 1.7 to 2.75 million) for up to eight years, starting this year, to eight new research centres for renewable energy to start up later in the year. The research will be aimed at help- ing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Norway and internationally, to use energy more efficiently, and to increase the production of renewable energy. The centres will publish the results of their research and contribute to a knowledge-based debate on environment-friendly energy. The research will cover hydropower, smart grids, energy efficiency in trade and industry, environment-friendly transport, CO_2 management, solar cells, biofuels and zero-emission urban zones.
