The Ministry of Energy of Georgia is moving ahead with the development of five small hydro schemes, having invited expressions of interest in early December for companies to study, construct, own and operate the schemes, which will total 46.5 MW of capacity. Expressions of interest were due by 13 January for the 8.6 MW Surebi 2 and 5 MW Baramidze 2 projects in the western region of Guria, the 11.2 MW Kokhi scheme in the southwestern autonomous region of Adjara, the 4.22 MW Zestafoni 1 scheme in the central region of Imereti, and the 17.5 MW Digomi scheme in the region of the capital Tbilisi. This follows the submission of letters of interest for each of the projects from individual investors, triggering the open call for bids. Local developer, Hydro Energy Construction, submitted letters of interest for the Surebi 2, Baramidze 2 and Kokhi projects while Trialeti 2013 HPP filed a bid for Digomi and Zestafoni 1 plants and submitted a letter of interest for Zestafoni 1. The estimated required investments for the schemes would be as follows: Digomion the Mtkvari river, US$ 35 million; Surebi 2, on the Supsa river, US$ 15.4 million; Kokhi, on the Kintrishi river, US$ 21 million; Baramidze 2, on the Baramidzistskali river, US$ 10 million; and, Zestafoni 1 on the Kvirila river, US$ 8.44 million. Digomi, Kokhi, Surebi 2, Baramidze 2 and Zestafoni 1 are expected to generate average annual output of 95 GWh, 43.1 GWh, 47 GWh, 23.9 GWh and 20.15 GWh, respectively.
