A consortium led by Andritz Hydro of Austria has been awarded a contract by the Democratic Republic of Congo's state utility, Societe Nationale d'Elec-tricite (SNEL), for refurbishment of the Mwadingusha hydro plant on the river Lufira in the southern province of Katanga. The scope of supply for Andritz Hydro comprises replacement of four turbines, generators, governors, inlet valves, exciters, voltage regulation, and draft tube stoplogs, including dismantling, erection, and commissioning, the equipment supplier announced on 16 January. The new turbines will provide almost 10 per cent more output than the original units, which were commissioned in 1928 and manufactured by Charmilles, a predecessor of Andritz Hydro.
