The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRE-NA) are to provide US$ 15 million in funding to construct a hydro plant in the Solomon Islands. Funding for the as yet unnamed 20 MW hydropower scheme is planned to "diversify the country's energy mix, provide renewable energy access to 5000 people, avoid 44 000 tonnes of CO_2 emissions annually and create around 40 jobs", the two organizations announced in a joint statement on 14 January.
