As we complete the first month of a new calendar year, with the Lunar new year coming up soon, there begin to be clear signs of better times ahead. It would be hard to imagine a new year with as many unpleasant universal challenges as 2020. Hopes are now universally high that within a few months, the worst of the global pandemic will be over, or at least receding, thanks to the the vaccination programmes already underway. But the trail left behind, in addition to the human death toll, will be struggling economies and thus enhanced poverty, especially in some of the most vulnerable parts of the world. These regions are generally those which have vast untapped hydro potential, and in the light of the various catastrophic impacts of COVID-19, as well as on-going climate concerns, the importance of accelerating its development is widely acknowledged.
