The paper discusses the potential benefits of developing a pumped-storage scheme at the 7 Forks cascade of existing hydropower plants in Kenya. The study described indicates that the implementation of pumped storage could help the national utility KenGen to achieve its Horizon II Strategy of increasing installed capacity by 2500 MW as part of the 5000 MW target set by the Government. The authors present an outline of the potential development, and the impact the scheme could have on the KenGen Power pool.
