BC Hydro has selected a consortium led by the AECON Group of Canada as the preferred proponent for the construction of the generating station and spillways for the 1100 MW Site C hydropower project on the Peace river in the western Canadian province of British Columbia. The province's utility announced on 21 December that it would work with the AFDE Partnership, comprising also Dragados Canada, Flatiron Constructors Canada and EBC, on a final contract, which would include delivery of civil works associated with the powerhouse, penstocks, spillways and power intakes, as well as related ancillary construction work. Should a final contract be reached, BC Hydro said it would require approval of its board to award the contract. The full contract award is expected to take place shortly, and work is scheduled to begin within a few months, with expected completion in early 2023, according to AECON.
