Ontario Power Generation (OPG), the power utility serving the east-central Canadian province of Ontario, announced on 22 June that it had raised CS 450 million (US$ 341.1 million) through the issue of green bonds to finance a series of hydropower projects. This first-of-its-kind financing for the Canadian energy sector will be used initially to finance the 28 MW Peter Sutherland Senior generating station on New Post Creek, and the ongoing expansion of the Ramney Falls generating station at Ranney Falls on the Trent river. The Peter Sutherland Senior plant was commissioned in March 2017 (see H&D Issue 3, 2017). The expansion of Ranney Falls, which will involve an additional 10 MW unit being added, is expected to be completed in late 2019 (see H&D Issue 6, 2017).
