The overall average electricity consumption in mainland Portugal (4812 GWh) was exceeded by the overall RE generated electricity in March, although some temporary shortfalls had to be met by thermal sources, according to data from REN (Redes Energeticas Nacionais, the Portuguese energy sector company). The renewable electricity production accounted for 103.6 per cent of the electricity consumption, a level unmatched in the last 40 years.
