Uganda is still developing its economy and hydro-power is one of the key infrastructural developments that will aid the overall development of the country. Since the reforms in the mid-1990s a lot has been achieved in the power sector, particularly regarding hydropower. By the year 2020, it is forecast that Uganda will have an installed capacity of about 1600 MW. This will go a long way to supporting the development of various sectors such as transport, commercial industries and the manufacturing sector. The supply of electricity will help facilitate a move away from using biomass, particularly firewood and charcoal, for cooking and domestic energy. This will also help in the conservation of the environment.
