摘要

Some of the challenges encountered during the construction of the Memve'ele project have been described here, with a special focus on the geotechni-cal aspects. Most of the civil works at the project have now been completed. The main dam, the headrace channel and the forebay have successfully been impounded. The next step will be the completion of the power-plant and its electro-mechanical equipment, so as to be ready to deliver the first power from the plant. The first unit was pre-commissioned at the end of 2016, and the other three will be ready to begin operation over the next six months.
