The Indian infrastructure group Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) has been awarded a contract worth Rs 810.37 crore (about US$ 126 million) by Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Ltd (JKSPDCL) to build the 93 MW New Ganderbai run-of-river project, on the river Sindh, a tributary of the river Jhelum, in Central Kashmir. The EPC contract includes the design, engineering and execution of civil works, as well as the manufacture, assembly, inspection, testing and commissioning of electro-mechanical and hydro-mechanical equipment, HCC announced on 10 August. The work is to be completed in 48 months. The New Ganderbai project, which was conceived in the late 1980s and formally announced in 1996, was approved by the State Government of Jammu & Kashmir in June 2017. The project, which has an estimated completion cost of Rs 1264.83 crore (about US$ 195 million), will comprise a plant with three 31 MW units, to be supplied by an 11.66 km-long horse-shoe shaped tunnel.
