摘要

The San Martin hydroelectric project is a 5.8 MW run-of-river scheme being developed by Interamerican Hydroelectric Corporation (IHC) on the river Bijao in central Nicaragua. The scheme, located in the highlands of the department of Matagalpa, 250 km northeast of the capital Managua, has been designed by Costa Rica-based engineering consultancy Carbon Ingenieria, and is being co-financed by the Belgian Investment Company for Developing Countries (BIO), which in October 2017 approved a loan of US$ 9.7 million. The plant is expected to generate average annual output of 25 GWh, with electromechanical equipment supplied by Wasserkraft Volk of Germany. Construction began in early 2017, with current work ongoing on the dam and intake, the 3400 m-long low pressure conveyance, penstock, surge tank and powerhouse. San Martin is expected to be ready for commissioning by December 2018.
