The rubber dam specialists Dyrhoff Ltd of the UK recently completed the installation of a rubber dam in Maine, USA. This follows on from a number of previous projects supplied in the area, notably at the Androscoggin 3, Deer Rips, Monty and Hiram hydropower facilities owned by Brookfield Hydro. Located on the Kennebec river in the town of Madison, Maine, the Anson project is a run-of-river plant, which utilizes air inflated rubber dams instead of wooden flashboards mounted on the crest of a low concrete weir. The waste gate at this facility is also an air-inflated rubber dam. All the rubber dams at the Anson plant were originally supplied by Bridgestone Corporation in 1996 and 1997. The waste gate rubber dam was damaged in early 2015 and, following a tendering process, plant owners United Paper Mills, working with consultants Kleinschmidt Associates, selected Dyrhoff to supply the new dam and oversee its installation. Contractors, CCB Inc, completed work on the 4.1 m-high, 12.2 m-wide waste gate in September 2015.
