Rainpower has signed a contract with Skagerak Energi for the refurbishment of the 2.9 MW Bjordalen hydro plant in the Skien watershed in Hjartdal, in the southern Norwegian county of Telemark. The contract covers the refurbishment of the plant's single Francis turbine. Its subsidiary, Hymtak Controls, has meanwhile been awarded the contract for a new control system for the plant, the Norwegian-based hydro-power engineering group announced in late August. Hymatek will supply a new control system, AC distribution, turbine controller and new excitation, the company said. The refurbished plant is to be handed back to Skagerak Energi in the third quarter of 2017. The powerplant, which was commissioned in 1960, generates average annual production of 9.4 GWh, from a head of 49 m between Lake Skjesvatnet and Lake Brei-vatnet. It also draws water from the river Heai.
